Animal Care & Management

This sector covers a wide range of industries involved in domestic and wild animal care and management. It includes animal welfare, animal behaviour and training, animal retailing, pet grooming, breeding & boarding kennels, veterinary care, zoos & wildlife sanctuaries, therapy and assistance animals, research animals and working animals (eg sheep dogs). Animal welfare and a 'do no harm' approach are key drivers of change.  
Note: Horse breeding and the care of race horses and greyhounds falls under Racing which is covered by the Future Now ITC.
 
There are many interesting and rewarding careers in Animal Care & Management. Persons interested in pursuing a career in the industry can choose to work in any of the following:
  • Local government ranger
  • Animal technician
  • Zookeeper / Wildlife carer
  • Animal attendant
  • Pet Groomer
  • Zoologist
  • Veterinary nurse
  • Veterinary practitioner
  • Animal trainer
  • Kennel hand
  • Animal refuge worker
  • Pet shop attendant
