FFTITC BOARD REAFFIRMS LEADERSHIP FOR 2025,

SETS STRATEGIC PRIORITIES


The Food, Fibre and Timber Industries Training Council of WA Inc. (FFTITC) has solidified its leadership for 2025 following the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM).  During a Board of Management meeting on December 10, 2024, key officeholders were re-elected, and plans for the year ahead were outlined to align with the organisation’s evolving goals.

 

Leadership updates

Darren Culverwell was unanimously re-elected as Chairperson, with Tania Longman returning as Deputy Chairperson.  The Board also welcomed Debra Kaye as the inaugural Treasurer, following amendments to the FFTITC Constitution earlier this year.

jobsandskills.wa.gov.au has been the one-stop-shop for Western Australians seeking information, resources and support for training, career development, and job seeking.  It’s recently had a re-vamp and upgrade.

 

The Forest Industries Federation WA (FIFWA) Forestry Safety Code provides a critically important guide on workplace health and safety in forestry operations, highlighting potential hazards and providing direction on risk assessment and control measures. It was co-funded by the Forest Products Commission (FPC).

 

 The National Skills Agreement is a 5-year joint agreement between the Commonwealth and states and territories to strengthen the VET sector.  An outcomes framework was recently released.  The Outcomes Framework will track progress of the VET sector against the 9 Outcomes identified in the National Skills Agreement.

 

Students and apprentices in Perth's northern suburbs will start training in new state-of-the-art facilities in Balga from Term 1, 2025, thanks to a $51.1 million Cook Labor Government investment in new infrastructure.


A Hope Valley heavy industrial company has been fined $350,000 on two charges (and ordered to pay $5295 in costs) over causing serious injuries to a 16-year-old apprentice and not reporting the injury


 The number of Western Australians in work jumped by a massive 15,300 people to a new record 1.63 million people in November, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Labour Force data released today.

 The Albanese Labor Government is today announcing a new targeted Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) designed to attract skilled migrants who will make a significant contribution to the Australian economy, including in the housing sector.


 

This report to the Skills and Workforce Ministerial Council presents the final recommendations of the Qualification Reform Design Group (QRDG) to modernise Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications.

 

To help support the growth of First Nations aquaculture enterprises, Skills Insight is working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to develop training tools that are culturally appropriate and tailored to the needs of First Nations communities.


Consultation is continuing with stakeholders to identify the opportunities and challenges facing the textiles, clothing and footwear workforce and to assess if the national qualifications meet industry needs.  A stakeholder survey which is open until 31 December 2024
