Nominate for the Australian Training Awards

This year, the WA Training Awards was cancelled due to COVID 19, however the National Awards which is held later in the year is going ahead. Generally, individual categories, e.g. Apprentice of the Year are awarded at State Level and then move onto the National Awards. Unfortunately, this is not going to occur this year ☹. However, there are still SEVEN categories in which WA individual and businesses can participate. Cabinet Making and COVID19

The Cabinet Makers Association of WA and WA Furniture Manufacturers Association conducted a survey of businesses between 28 May and 5 June 2020. The survey was conducted prior to recent Commonwealth and State announcements of incentives to the building industry.The emailed survey had 51 respondents. The findings were: 89% of respondents said that their businesses were affected by COVD19, 67% significantly. 80% of respondents were utilising JobKeeper to retain staff, suggesting their turnover was down at least 30%. Free training for WA apprentices and trainees: Training costs will be covered for apprentices and trainees who have had their training contracts cancelled or suspended, to continue their off the job training for up to six months. This support will make apprentices and trainees more employable in the COVID-19 recovery phase, and is one of the State Government's measures to keep WA’s pipeline of skilled workers on track during COVID-19. Eligible apprentices and trainees displaced between 1 March 2020 and 31 December 2020 will be entitled to fee relief. Veterinary Nursing Traineeship Change

The Training Council is pleased to announce that the nominal duration of the Veterinary Nursing (Level 4) Traineeship has been increased from 24 to 36 months. Following industry requests the WA Minister for Education and Training approved the change on 29 May 2020. This change makes the nominal duration consistent across Australia. Traineeships make on the job training happen. You get an agreed training plan, with clear objectives and an industry competent trainer to work with you and your business.
