Furniture Trades Employers Survey
A recent FFTITC survey of employers regarding furniture industry apprenticeships suggested, amongst many other things, four common concerns of employers:
High cancellations in the first 4 months made the cost of apprenticeships unpredictable.
Some employers avoided Group Training Organisations (GTOs) because they preferred to have more direct control of the apprentice in the latter years of the apprenticeship.
Small businesses cannot always afford a full time apprentice, but would still like to contribute to skills development in the industry.
Small businesses are not always expert in selection and recruitment - contributing to high cancellations.
As a result of these findings, a Group Training Organisation (GTO) has put together a program and flyer to address these concerns. Click here for the flyer, the FFTITC is interested in the ideas contained in it. However, the FFTITC does not recommend any particular GTO and suggests that interested employers explore the ideas in the flyer with the GTO of their choice.
