Good News! Additional Support to Employers

There are several recent budget announcements offering support to employers who take on an apprentice, trainee or young worker. These incentives may help you to grow your business and bring new skills into your workplace:



New Free Training for the Production Horticulture Industry

It’s here!! The new Introduction to Production Horticulture skill set will prepare workers for entry level roles in horticulture. It is fee-free for people aged 15 to 24, concession students and displaced workers.


Relocation Assistance to take up a job

From 1 Nov 2020, relocation assistance will be available to people who relocate to harvest and regional areas to take up short-term agricultural work, including Australians who are not receiving income support and those with the right to work in Australia. From 1 Dec 2020, all employment service program job seekers will be eligible for this assistance.


Not forgetting the WA “Primary Industries Workers Regional Travel and Accommodation Support Scheme” which will provide targeted assistance to farming, fisheries and food processing businesses in regional areas


Have your say! Low take up of IT traineeships

FutureNow (a WA Training Council) has been tasked by the Minister to find out why there is low take up of IT traineeships. If you have an IT department or an IT focus, have your say.


WA Training Awards 2020 winners celebrated

The winners of this year’s WA Training Awards was announced on 6 October 2020. They now go forward to the National Awards in November. Congrats to all and best wishes.


New $8 Million Announced to Upgrade WA TAFE Infrastructure

The WA Government has committed new capital work projects to revitalise TAFE, to improve training delivery to meet industry needs.

Food Agility CRC has developed a one stop shop for finding all sorts of technology – ranging from sensors, software, machinery. It’s not brand specific but more of a huge catalogue . It's great!



CEDA Event: Western Australia's economic recovery - Treasurer Ben Wyatt October 30 @ 10 am

Having handed down his State Budget, CEDA welcomes Western Australia’s Treasurer to further detail the priorities, plans and policies for recovery in the West.


Animals in disasters:

Are you a stakeholder in animal emergency management? Macquarie University wants your thoughts about how we can plan better.


Draft Flour Milling Skills Standards:

It is proposed that the Certificate IV in Flour Milling be deleted and replaced by the Certificate III in Food Processing, with a flour milling specialisation.


Production Baking:

Skills standards for high volume production baking are being revised to reflect the updated skills needed for working with automated equipment, enhanced traceability and supply chain systems.


Livestock transport and saleyards:

New animal welfare regulations covering Cattle and Sheep are now in effect. Regulations bring into effect modern and nationally agreed animal welfare rules in Western Australia.
